What to expect during a planned power interruption

Some electrical work requires the supply to be disconnected. Confirm the proposed interruption and reconnection arrangements with your project contact before planning around them.

Opens a ready-to-edit email with this explanation. Check it, add a personal note and forward it.

01

Before the work

  • Tell your project contact about essential equipment, access needs or operations that depend on power.
  • Charge phones and check how internet, alarms, gates and garage doors behave without mains electricity.
  • Save computer work and plan for refrigeration or other equipment that needs continuous power.
  • Keep the agreed work area accessible and make sure the right person can provide entry.

02

Life support equipment

If anyone relies on life support equipment, raise this before work is arranged. Keep your registration with your retailer or Ausgrid current and follow your equipment-specific backup plan. Tell us that special arrangements are needed; do not put medical records into a general enquiry.

03

During and after the interruption

Keep clear of the work area and leave electrical equipment to the attending professionals. Confirm with them when supply has been restored and whether any part of the installation remains isolated. A planned finish time is an estimate; testing, site conditions or additional work can affect reconnection.

04

Received an Ausgrid outage notice?

Follow that notice and check Ausgrid’s outage information for network updates. It is separate from the timing of work arranged directly with your contractor.
